Webkinz are stuffed animals originally released by the Ganz company in 2005. WebKinz are similar to many other small plush toys. But, when you buy a Webkinz they come with a special code. This Webkinz code gives you access to “Webkinz World”, a website where you can “adopt” a virtual version of the stuffed animal you just bought. The website allows you to adopt the pet for virtual interaction. There are also smaller versions of Webkinz called “Lil’ Kinz”.
Webkinz have been compared to Beanie Babies. Beanie Babies have been retired for a while, and it encourages high secondary selling prices. Webkinz have been very popular with kids, and Ganz is claiming more than 2 million Webkinz have been sold to retailers and apparently there’s at least 1 million registered users of the Webkinz website.
